  1. On Friday morning, June 1, 2018 I discovered a dead yellow-beck cuckoo on my patio. It must have flown into the window. Beautiful bird, I have never seen one before. Are they common in southern Ontario?

  2. I photographed a bird at my feeder (in Brampton) a few years ago and still don’t have a positive ID on it. Can someone tell me what it is? 🙂 (click on image to enlarge)

    Eastern Screech Owl

Hope you’re having a wonderful holiday!

    Thanks!

  4. Several years ago, I spotted an unknown bird at my feeders. After making inquiries, I was able to identify it as a Juvenal Red-Headed Woodpecker. He was captured in this video clip. Juvenal Red-Headed Woodpecker
He was around for a couple of weeks, and I was thrilled to find this threatened species at my feeder and hoped I might someday see an adult at my feeder.
Several years later, while monitoring my Bluebirds, I had the pleasure of seeing an adult Red-Headed Woodpecker at my feeder. I couldn’t help but wonder if this was the same bird.

  5. Red Headed Woodpecker
Red-headed Woodpecker seen several times at my backyard feeder at 7:30 this morning. A first for my backyard, and only the second sighting for me! I have a couple of not very good pics.

  6. Birding at two sites yesterday. The first location was Hamilton’s Olympic woods for my second attempt to spot a pair of Tufted Titmice, successful this time.

I was able to see them both eventually, along with a variety of other birds, Rusty Blackbirds, Fox Sparrow, White-crowned Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows, Northern Harrier and many more.
The second location was Sedgwick Park in Oakville to see some other rarities – a Blue-headed Vireo, Palm Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler and a Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Also spotted a Rough-legged Hawk, lots of Robins and some of the more common species. Did not spot the Orange-crowned Warbler which has been reported there.
